Cerrone’s has been a family owned dealership for three generations, and family is a value that Al takes to heart. He remembers the day when all three of his brothers were working to make Cerrone’s the warm establishment it is today. Al always aspired to be a car dealer and follow in the family tradition and business, even through his college days. Al graduated Princeton in 1976 and a year later became General Motors' youngest dealer at age 23. He started out small, but quickly became a selling force in Southeastern Massachusetts and remained loyal to GM and its products ever since. Along the way, Al won almost every sales and service award that GM had.
Despite his dedication to his business, Al's commitment to the community remained strong. Since 1977 he has sponsored numerous teams, charities, organizations, and events, including the Boys and Girls Club and The Boy Scouts. In addition to his honors from GM, he has been honored by The Italian American Association and by The Town of Cumberland, RI as Outstanding Business Person and Community Leader. Al is currently the spokesperson for Crossroads Homeless Shelter of RI and most recently has received the Patrick Henry Award, which is the highest honor that the US military can give to a civilian, for his 20 years of service to the community and to the RI Air National Guard. The RI ANG Air Show has raised
$1.4 million for Hasbro Children's Hospital since its inception.
Over the years, Al has been proud to do his part in helping the communities, families, and youth of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and the Scouts has been one of his proudest sponsorships. Al's commitment to the Cub Scouts began when he himself was a cub scout in Providence, RI. In the last five years, he has had close ties with the Anawan Council in hosting the Pinewood Derby annually in his very own dealership showroom.
Al also makes a point to assure a successful future for his children and family. He himself is a graduate of The Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University. He has passed his strong belief in the importance of outstanding education to his three children as well. His oldest daughter, Katie, was also a graduate of The Phillips Exeter Academy where she excelled in Varsity swimming and softball and went on to play Varsity softball at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. She pursued a degree in Economics, graduated with honors, and is now beginning her Master's in Business Administration from The Smith School at University of Maryland. Al's second daughter, Alana, graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI with high honors, where she was captain of the Varsity Swimming Team her senior year. She went on to Villanova University in Villanova, PA where she recently graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Communication. Al's youngest, Alfred, is currently a student at The Governor's Academy in Byfield, MA. He is an honors student and three-sport Varsity athlete. All three of Al's children have spent summers working at the family dealership, learning the business and keeping part of the tradition that their family has made many years ago. The Cerrone family extends far beyond the immediate members. Many of our employees have been with us for years and most of our customers have been buying from the Cerrone family for decades, going back to when Al’s father, Smokey Cerrone, owned Harris Auto Sales in Providence, RI and sold Chrysler products. Our customers have been returning to Cerrone’s because they know they will be welcomed by a friendly and courteous staff, and not hassled into a sale. Clearly, we care.
It is our pleasure to help you find the car or truck that is right for you, and we invite you to come meet the family and have a comfortable and enjoyable buying experience. You will be glad you did!
