Cerrone’s has been a family owned dealership for three generations, and family is a value that Al takes to heart. He remembers the day when all three of his brothers were working to make Cerrone’s the warm establishment it is today. Philip, a graduate of Bryant University, is the oldest of the Cerrone boys. Although he owns Philip Machine Co. in Smithfield, RI, Phil can always be relied on to help his brother and the dealership. Stephen, a graduate of Brown University, moved to Vermont with his family to pursue a career of his own after years of service in the Cerrone buildings. Michael, the youngest of the four brothers, lives in Burbank, CA, where he is writing, directing and acting in movies. A graduate of Yale University, Michael has helped produce, write and act in movies such as Outside Providence, Me, Myself & Irene, and Kingpin. And we can't forget Al; a product of Mount St. Charles, Phillips Exeter Academy, and Princeton University, Al always aspired to be a car dealer even through his college days. Al graduated Princeton in 1976 and became General Motors' youngest dealer at age 23. He's been loyal to GM and its products ever since.
The Cerrone family extends far beyond the three generations of Cerrone boys. Many of our employees have been with us for years and most of our customers have been buying from the Cerrone family for decades, going back to when Al’s father, Smokey Cerrone, owned Harris Auto Sales in Providence, RI and sold Chrysler products. Our customers have been returning to Cerrone’s because they know they will be welcomed by a friendly and courteous staff, and not hassled into a sale. Clearly, we care. Now the fourth generation of Cerrones is grown up and thinking about starting their own careers, and there is hope that the Cerrone name will be continually relied on for great service and quality. Al has two daughters, Katie, a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and student at Trinity College, and Alana, a student at Villanova University; they have both spent summers working at the dealership and learning the business. Also, Katie and Alana have proven themselves athletically, both winning numerous awards in softball and swimming. Alfred, Al’s son and youngest of the three, is an honors student at a Catholic high school and talented baseball pitcher. Philip’s two daughters, Lisa and Michaela, are students at Tufts University and Fairfield University, and both were high school tennis champions. Mike has two kids, Kristina, a graduate of Hamilton College and presently a law student, and Michael, a student at Florida Gulf Coast University and avid golfer; Mike has also spent summers working at the dealership. Stephen’s two children, Victoria and Stephen, are both attending school in Quechee, Vermont, where they are participating in music and sports.
As the Cerrone family grows, so is the dealership and service department. Al has recently acquired Chevrolet, which he added to an already great line up of GM franchises. Across the street, five brand new service bays are being built which will accommodate large commercial trucks, an investment that Al hopes will allow him to serve a larger array of customers. Over the years, the Cerrones have been proud to do their part in helping the communities of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, with their endless donations and sponsorships, including the RI National Guard Air Show.
